Treat Yo Self Day
A few years ago the hit NBC show, Parks and Recreation, introduced the idea of a new holiday...Treat Yo Self Day. October 13, 2017 is Treat Yo Self Day, and it is really about having a day to splurge on yourself and indulge in whatever you desire. Perhaps you've been wanting to get a massage...buy that new pair of shoes...relax with a staycation...or have a night on the town...The possibilities are endless and the choice is YOURS.
I am always on board with a personal splurge day, and it's especially deserved after days/weeks/months of working hard!
So, with that thought in mind, here are a few ways that YOU can Treat Yo' Self and enjoy a day of personal bliss!
- Brennan's of Houston
- Brennan's of Houston is one of my favorite restaurants, and I typically don't need a special reason to visit for a cocktail and dine on Chef Joe's delicious menu. However, the Brennan's Blue Crab & Caviar Nachos are definitely special trip and splurge worthy! With a full pound of Louisiana Jumbo Lump Crab, Fire Roasted Corn, St. Andre Queso, Alligator Pear (Avocado), Mirliton Pico de Gallo, and Lime Crema crowned with an ounce of Petrossian Caviar, this dish is certainly a treat for anyone looking for next level nachos; totally worth the $100. While you're at it, ask Richard to recommend one of his perfectly crafted cocktails to pair with the nachos. Thank me later!
- A day at the Four Seasons Hotel Houston
- Relax and Treat Yo' Self to a day of self-care at the Four Seasons Hotel Houston's Spa. After you enjoy one of their spa treatments (I would prefer to enjoy it in a poolside cabana), head down to Bayou & Bottle for a glass of bourbon and a round on the Top Golf simulator. Still feeling like treating yourself a bit more? You can purchase tickets ($250) to attend the upcoming Chefs Unmasked event where eight celebrated and award-winning chefs will come together to curate an unforgettable culinary event to benefit the Houston Hospitality Employee Relief Fund.
- Afternoon Tea at Hotel Granduca
- As I pointed out in a recent post, Hotel Granduca offers four Afternoon Tea Service options that are perfect for a day of treating yourself. Chilling with friends by the pool while sipping Perrier-Jouët Belle Epoque prosecco, a variety of flavorful teas, and fresh pastries is quite a nice way to spend a Friday afternoon. There's never a wrong day for bubbly.

- Das Boot at King's BierHaus
- Beer Lovers can indulge in King’s BierHaus’ “Das Boot” — 2.5 liters of your choice of draft beer. It’s $55 and you get to keep the glass as a souvenir. If you REALLY love beer and a great party, then Treat Yo Self to a couple of VIP tickets for their upcoming Oktoberfest on October 20-22. Even on a splurge day, who doesn't like to save a couple of dollars? So if your purchase tickets using the promo code Ofest you can save 20% on your VIP ticket and 50% off General Admission; grab your lederhosen!
- The Chef's Table at State of Grace
- The VIP treatment awaits you at State of Grace’s chef table experience, where you and a group of friends can get an up-close view of Bobby Matos’ cooking process. Book the chef’s table — a six-seat bar with a front row seat to the “back of the house” grill — for a multi-course tasting crafted from Chef Bobby’s favorite dishes of the day. Also, no visit is complete without digging into their selection of fresh oysters!
- Dine at Yauatcha
- Yauatcha has been a buzzing hotspot since it's opening, and claiming a seat in this popular eatery isn't always easy. But...today you're a VIP and there's nothing you can't have. Indulge in a decadent meal of Peking duck with Tsar Nicolai ‘Reserve’ caviar at Yauatcha. Each order comes complete with a whole duck served with pancakes, cucumber, scallion and 30g of caviar as well as a second course of stir-fry with your choice of XO sauce or black bean sauce. I highly recommend ordering the Scandinavian Scarlet cocktail, it's sure to please!
- The "Man Cave" at Hotel Derek
- Grab a few of your closest friends and check out "The Man Cave" package at Hotel Derek. The package includes a personal putting green, poker table with cards & chips, two scratch made pizzas, a bottle of Woodford Reserve Bourbon and a selection of ice cold craft beers. If you so choose, you can kick it up a notch by staying in the Wrangle Terrace Suite, which features a 500 sq. ft balcony, Uptown and Downtown Houston views, and two residential-style baths with soaking tubs. That sounds like the makings of a dope day to me!

I hope these few suggestions give you a good idea of ways that you can Treat Yo' Self on this awesome holiday. While today may be reserved as a specific day to Treat Yo' Self, it serves as a great reminder that we should always appreciate life and do nice things for ourselves (and others).
How will you splurge today and Treat Yo' Self?
Tonight I will be treating myself to a Rockets game with friends, a visit to MFAH for Mixed Media, and a celebratory cocktail.
Cheers and have a great weekend!
